I'm all about the adventure. When I have to go out of town, I love to take my time getting there and I try to find the most off the wall place to visit. Especially when it involves eating!
Michael and I went on our honeymoon to Italy in March and we ended up getting stranded in Amsterdam for a night. Awful, right? (Insert sarcasm here) As excited as we were to get to Florence, we reveled in the idea of spending the night in Amsterdam. Completely unplanned.
Because this wasn't on the itinerary and we were absolutely exhausted from all of the traveling, especially considering we had gotten married the night before, we didn't take many pictures. But we made the best of our first night on our honeymoon.
First, we got shuttled to a very interesting airport motel with two twin beds pushed together! We dropped our stuff off and grabbed an Uber down to the closest shopping district that we could find. I needed something warm to wear stat! March in Amsterdam is cold. Shocking, right?
We grabbed a meal at The Hard Rock Cafe because I always need food. We didn't have time to find some cute, local eatery so we just chose something that we both knew that we would like. The people were so fun! Our waiter had just moved to Amsterdam from London but he was originally from another European country that I can't remember. He just loved to travel and moved whenever it suited him. Talk about an adventurous life!
We found some clothes and a hat for me and I looked slightly better than ragged! I tell you, we were not prepared at all for this unexpected stop. We didn't pack any extra of anything on our carryon. So no makeup for me! You can check out my super casual (not quite rundown, ha!) look below.
Then we found an Irish Pub, because duh! We're O'Briens that just got married on St. Paddy's Day. There was a soccer game on and everyone was really into it. We grabbed a couple of Guinness' and did more people watching than soccer watching. It was an extremely fun way to spend a spontaneous night in Amsterdam.
We definitely plan on going back when we can actually enjoy all that the city has to offer. What are your Amsterdam travel tips? Did you love or hate Amsterdam? Comment below and let us know!
