Valentine’s Day Getaways

After what seemed like the longest January in recorded history, February has finally arrived. As I was sitting down to write this, I started thinking about February and the people who invented the modern day calendar. What did they have against February to make it so short? Wouldn’t it have just made more sense to have 30 day months instead of adding a 31st day to some months and shortchanging February?
Obviously this all has something to do with our solar system and phases of the moon, etc. I’m sure if Michael were here right now he would tell me the reasoning behind all of this because he is full of random knowledge like that.
Instead, I’ve drawn my own conclusion. The people who invented the calendar were like me, they wanted to get the “boring” months (January & February) over with. They knew that there were exciting events happening the remaining 10 months of the year, so they decided to cut February short and get on with March.
This is a full thought that I had this morning while thinking about Valentine’s Day getaways. In my world, it would be a more accurate history of why February is the shortest month!
So instead of letting February be just another month on our way to warmer weather and fun events, let’s make it a month to celebrate. Last year I decided that I wanted to make more of a deal about holidays. Afterall, why do we have them if we aren’t going to enjoy them? I understand that some people think that some holidays were made by the chocolate company or the flower company or the Hallmark company, etc. But I say so what? These people, or companies, have given us the opportunity to celebrate and show our loved ones that they matter.
This all brings me to the only major holiday in February, and no I’m not talking about the Super Bowl: Valentine’s Day.
I know Valentine’s Day is historically a couple’s holiday. And in recent years, friends have created Galentine’s Day. I love this idea but hate the name! I want to throw another idea into the ring. If you’re alone this holiday, or even if you are with a partner, let’s make this Valentine’s Day about self-love too. Take the day to pamper yourself or to do the things that you have been neglecting. Like a bubble bath, mani/pedi appointment, get a massage, etc.
There is no reason why Valentine’s Day has to be about other people, it can be about your love for yourself too. Afterall, life is as beautiful as you make it.
But I digress. Let’s get to the good stuff. What are you going to do to celebrate Valentine’s Day? My favorite thing to do is travel, so of course that is at the top of my list. Here are some ideas for your Valentine’s Day getaway trip:
Valentine’s Day Getaways
Have you ever sat down and really thought about what romance means to you? As I was thinking about a romantic getaway, all I could think of was that everyone’s idea of romance is different. I had to take a minute to think about what I would really want out of a romantic getaway. This is what a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway would look like to me:
There is not a city in the world that is more romantic than Paris, in my opinion. Just imagine spending your days strolling through the charming Parisian streets, window shopping and cafe hopping. Then enjoying a spectacular view of Paris and a world class meal at Le Jules Verne on the second floor of the Eiffel Tour. Followed up by another late night stroll and ending the night with a glass of wine at La Cave du 38 Riv while enjoying the live jazz music. Hôtel Plaza Athénée provides the perfect, romantic destination to complete your night.
What to wear:
I have never taken a girl’s trip over Valentine’s Day but I have taken quite a few trips with my girlfriends during other parts of the year. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to do that doesn’t happen very often. Of all of the places that you can go with your girlfriends for Valentine’s Day though, I think that Las Vegas is at the top of the list!
I’m not much of a gambler but I love a good pool. That’s why I would be perched up at The Pool at Park MGM. The Pool is reserved for hotel guests only, which makes it less crowded. Also, it’s designed after the south of France which just speaks to my French-loving soul.
After spending all day at the pool, the sky is the limit for a night on the town. Or if you’re like me, an early night in! The best part about Vegas is that there is something for everyone.
What to wear:
Are you alone this Valentine’s Day? Or maybe you just need a little alone time? I get it, no judgment here! I think a solo weekend away is something that everybody needs no matter what their relationship status is. Obviously if you’re going for a solo trip you want to hit up a nice spa for some rest and relaxation.
The beauty of a solo vacation is that you don’t have to go where someone else wants to go. It’s all up to you. I recommend finding the nicest spa near you with the best shopping areas to do some real shopping, or just window shopping. Find a city or area that has everything that you’re interested in. For me, a solo vacation would like this:
I recently went to Denver for the weekend and stayed at The Ramble Hotel. There were plenty of spas nearby and lots of unique shopping experiences. Plus, The Ramble Hotel has an amazing bar which was perfect for people watching and unwinding at the end of the day. What does your solo vacation look like?
What to wear:
Valentine’s Day is officially 2 weeks away, what do you have planned? It’s not too late to put together a Valentine’s Day to remember!
What will I be doing this Valentine’s Day, you ask? Well my sister owns a floral store (check it out here) so I will be working hard for her leading up to the big day. But, Michael and I plan to cook a fun, unique meal at home that night. One of our favorite things to do is pick a theme, like French night, and prepare a meal that is on theme. So the entire course will all be French inspired, the wine or beer will be French and the music will be French. For us who live so far away from a big city, it’s a nice way of experiencing new things without having to drive somewhere.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
