Thank You, 2018
I remember, so clearly, sitting in my office at the beginning of 2018 thinking about all of the goals I was going to accomplish over the next 365 days. I am such an optimistic person that none of them ever seemed too far out of reach. This memory is so vivid that it is hard to believe that a full year has passed. It’s even harder for me to tell you that I didn’t reach any of my goals this year.
Well, actually, it’s not that hard. After reflecting back on 2018, I can see how I didn’t reach any of my goals. I wasn’t ready. I was still in the “excuse making” phase of my journey. I told myself that I deserved a break. I told myself that tomorrow I would do better. I told myself a lot of things to make up for the fact that I wasn’t doing what I knew I needed to do in order to succeed.
But I’m not upset about any of this. Because during 2018 I learned so much more about myself personally than I have ever done before. I spent quality time with my friends and family. Time that I hadn’t taken during the 3 years previously.
2018 was the perfect year to reset because I know that 2019 is going to be another great year. The goals that I have for 2019 couldn’t have been imagineable if I hadn’t taken 2018 to get to know myself again.
So thank you 2018 for bringing more value to my life than I could put into writing. Here are a few of my favorite lessons from 2018:
The grass isn’t greener on the other side. It’s greener where you water it.
Your energy flows where your attention goes.
You will never influence the world by being just like it.
