Where the community meets.
Hi! I am so happy that you found Culley Avenue. This is an outlet for me, Dani, to share my life with the world! I know, sounds exciting right? Well, sometimes it is. My goal for Culley Avenue is help rid the world of debt. Ok, that's a tall task but I do want to help you get out of debt while still living the life that you have dreamt of.
Starting with my own experience of amassing almost $400,000 in debt, I am here to share with you everything that I've learned, and to educate you so that you don't make the same mistakes that I did. I started actively paying off my debt in February 2017, and as of December 2017 I am $285,000 in debt. Still a long way to go but a long way from where I started.
Culley Avenue is where we can talk money, travels, fashion advice, life lessons and so much more. This is not just a platform for me to share my adventures, but for us all to share them. Plus, I offer a small, curated section of items for sale that I love! I hope to expand more into this section so that I can offer one-of-a-kind items from other small businesses, who are the real go-getters in this world.
My mother lives in Virginia Beach. One time I was visiting her and she introduced me to the most fabulous little community called Ghent not far from Virginia Beach. So when it was time for me to come up with a name for a different project that I was working on I was trying to recall all of the things that really make me happy. Ghent really made me happy. I googled Ghent and there was a shopping district on Colley Avenue but in my head I kept saying Culley, like Macaulay Culkin! And that is the magic of how a name was formed.
I'm Dani O'Brien! I have lived so many lives in my very short life. I grew up in Nebraska in a town of 530 people. I joined the Marine Corps when I was 17, got stationed in San Diego at MCAS Miramar. There isn't enough time to recap the four years I spent in the military. I had such a great time, and such an awful time! :) I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I moved back to Nebraska when I was 22. I bought my first business when I was 26. It was a retail business in a small town of about 1,500 people. This store had already been established for 33 years prior to me purchasing it. In June of 2017 I moved that business completely online.
It was while running the store front of The Boot Rack that I realized there was so much more out there in the world. I did not want to be bogged down day after day. That was when Culley Avenue was born!
Now, I live on a farm with my husband, Michael, outside of the town that I grew up in. Exactly the opposite of how I saw my life going at 17! I travel a ton to stay sane. I love to write, I always have. I am beyond excited to write & chat with all of you.
I truly hope you enjoy. I hope to get to know each and every one of you. Yes, I'm talking to you, the one reading this that thinks that I'm not really talking about you. Let's get to know each other!
