About culley avenue
Where the community meets.
Hi! I am so happy that you found Culley Avenue. This is an outlet for me, Dani, to share my life with the world! I know, sounds exciting right? Well, sometimes it is. My goal for Culley Avenue is help rid the world of debt. Ok, that's a tall task but I do want to help you get out of debt while still living the life that you have dreamt of.
Starting with my own experience of amassing almost $400,000 in business debt, I am here to share with you everything that I've learned, and to educate you so that you don't make the same mistakes that I did. I started actively paying off my debt in February 2017, and as of March 2019 I am $223,203.98 in debt. Still a long way to go but a long way from where I started.
Culley Avenue is where we can talk money, travels, fashion advice, life lessons and so much more. This is not just a platform for me to share my adventures, but for us all to share them. Plus, I offer a small, curated section of items for sale that I love! I hope to expand more into this section so that I can offer one-of-a-kind items from other small businesses & entrepreneurs, who are the real go-getters in this world.
How Culley Avenue got its name
My mother lives in Virginia Beach. One time I was visiting her and she introduced me to the most fabulous little community called Ghent not far from Virginia Beach. So when it was time for me to come up with a name for a different project that I was working on I was trying to recall all of the things that really make me happy. Ghent really made me happy. I googled Ghent and there was a shopping district on Colley Avenue but in my head I kept saying Culley, like Macaulay Culkin! And that is the magic of how a name was formed.
Hey everyone! I’m Dani O’Brien and I currently live in Albion, Nebraska. Well, actually I live in Akron, Nebraska which is between Albion & Spalding. If you’re not from around here, I live 2.5 hours from Omaha! I live on a farm with my husband. If you follow me on instagram you will see our cows, chickens, dogs, dog, and cats on a regular basis!
I grew up in Spalding, Nebraska, at town of 530 people. After high school I joined the Marine Corps at the age of 17. I spent four years as an active duty Marine. I have the greatest respect for all active duty and veterans of every branch of service. There is something that is truly priceless about dedicating part of your life to serve this country.
After the Marine Corps, I moved back to Nebraska and worked a bunch of odd jobs while sort of going to college. I bought my first business when I was 26. It was a retail business in a small town of about 1,500 people. This store had already been established for 33 years prior to me purchasing it. In June of 2017 I moved that business completely online. This was the time when most brick & mortar stores were moving online or closing completely. I have to say that this was a really difficult time for me because it was like a failure to me. Looking back, it was the best business decision that I’ve ever made. Always remember that you have to do what’s best for you, no matter what other people say.
It was while running The Boot Rack that I realized there was so much more out there in the world. I did not want to be bogged down day after day. That was when Culley Avenue was born! I have been working on Culley Avenue off and on over the past two years. It has been very rewarding and I have had so much fun meeting people all over the world.
I truly hope you enjoy what I am putting out into the world. I hope to get to know each and every one of you. Yes, I'm talking to you, the one reading this that thinks that I'm not really talking about you. Let's get to know each other!
